Helensburgh is a good stopping point on the road from Glasgow to the west highlands and the Western Isles. For example, Oban and it’s ferries for the Western Isles is two hours seventeen minutes by train and a similar time by car.
In addition, Helensburgh is well located for some of Scotland’s other major tourist destinations.
Stirling with its Castle and impressive memorial to Sir William Wallace, the Braveheart of the film of the same name, on Abbey Craig are about an hour’s drive.
Scotland’s Capital Edinburgh is 2 hours by train. The mountain activity centre at Glencoe is a similar distance by car.
The City of Glasgow with its splendid architecture, museums and art galleries and outstanding shopping centres can be visited using an open-top hop-on-hop-off tourist bus or the Glasgow Underground system.
