Historic Sites

Several National Trust for Scotland properties are within easy reach from Larch View. In addition to Charles Rennie Macintosh’s Hill House in Helensburgh itself there is Pollok House with the Burrell Collection and the Tenement House in Glasgow.

Historic Scotland cares for a number of important ancient monuments like Inchmahome Priory. This is situated on an island in the Lake of Menteith (the only lake in Scotland and featured in Sir Walter Scott’s epic poem, The Lady of the Lake). It can be reached by motor launch which operates on a demand basis. Dumbarton Castle is close by on the banks of the Firth of Clyde.

Inchmahome Priory

Inveraray is a little over an hour away by car where there is the beautiful Castle and 19th Century Jail.

Cruachan hydro-electric power station is less historic, but also well worth a visit.
